About Us

First State Bank was chartered in Joplin, Missouri in 1925 at our current location of 802 Main Street. At that time, all of the banks in town were hometown or locally owned banks. First State Bank is the only remaining bank that is hometown and locally owned. Many bank and bank names have come and gone over the years and First State Bank is extremely proud to have passed the test of time and remains strong and independent.

In the 1960's First State Bank was one of the first banks in town to have a drive-up bank. This was a circular building on the west side of the existing main bank building. The two buildings were connected by an overhead walkway, which was required by law at that time.

In the 1970's First State Bank was one of the first banks to have an ATM called "Quick Silver" which was descriptive of the mining area and the functionality of the revolutionary machine. First State Bank now has 10 ATM locations in the area to serve your needs.

In 1975 First State Bank built the freestanding full service branch located at 2433 Range Line. This attractive and functional building continues to serve our customers well.

In 1996 First State Bank built Joplin's only bank data processing center located at the north east corner of 8th and Main street. This center houses our computer and bookkeeping department so that customers can receive their statements quickly and can talk to real people about banking issues. Big bank's customers must call a 1-800 number several states away to deal with bookkeeping issues. First State Bank has kept these jobs and this very important function right here in Joplin.

In 1997 First State Bank pioneered the first supermarket XPRESS branch in this area by opening a full service bank in the Ramey Supermarket on 171 Hiway in Webb City, MO. First State Bank was the first bank with a supermarket in the lobby. This wonderful location allows busy people to bank and shop, in just one stop.

In 1998 First State Bank again pioneered the first convenience store XPRESS branch in this area by opening a bank in the west end of the Coastal Super Stop at 1316 E. 32nd street. This convenient and cost effective branch has been extremely well received by our patrons.

In 1999 First State Bank was one of the first banks in the area to offer Internet banking to our customers.

In 2000, First State Bank opened another XPRESS Bank located at the northwest corner of 7th and Maiden Lane in the East end of the shopping center. This attractive location will provide XPRESS service to our customers in the West part of Joplin in a convenient and cost effective manner. You now have 5 locations in the Joplin Metro Area and 10 ATM's to choose from. All 5 locations also have drive-up windows for your convenience.

Joplin is Missouri's 4th largest metropolitan area and we are extremely proud to have played a major role in the development of Joplin over the years. First State Bank will continue to grow by adding new convenient and cost effective branches to provide our customers with the very best banking values available. The outstanding staff at First State Bank is committed to making the Joplin area a better place to live, work and play in the next millennium.
